Heel prick and hearing test
In the first week after the birth of your baby, we will come to your home for a heel prick and a hearing test for your child.
What is a heel prick and a hearing test?
With the heel prick we test whether your child has a congenital disease. If so, it is good to know this as early as possible. Then doctors can start treatment quickly. This is important for the health of your baby.
We also do a hearing test on your child. We use this to test whether your baby can hear well. This is important to learn to speak well. And to make contact with other people. For example, with you as parents. Being able to hear well is also important to be able to learn. If a child cannot hear well, treatment is often possible. The sooner this treatment starts, the better the child can learn to speak.
When will my child receive the heel prick and hearing test?
Your child will receive the heel prick no later than 1 week after birth. We will let you know in an email when we will visit you. We will do this no later than 1 working day before the day on which we will visit you at home. During this appointment, your child will also receive the hearing test.
We hear from the municipality that your baby has been born. If we have your details, you will receive a message with an appointment date. Sometimes it takes a little longer before we receive the details of the birth. We also do not always have your telephone number or email address. That is why you can also register your child for the heel prick and the hearing test yourself. The maternity nurse or nurse can also do this for you.
If your baby is in hospital, a doctor or nurse will do the heel prick there. We will then do the hearing test when your child is back home. Therefore, let the child health clinic know when your child comes home. Does your baby have to stay in hospital for a longer period? Then we can do the test in the hospital. We will then contact you about this. Is that not possible? Then call us yourself on 088 560 2000. Or fill in the form.
