Preparing for parenthood

Being pregnant is a special experience. But as a future parent, you may also have doubts or concerns. If you want, you can talk about this.

Preparing for parenthood

The youth nurse of the youth health care (JGZ) listens to you and thinks with you about possible solutions. After the birth of your child, you will see the youth nurse again at the consultation bureau. As a parent, you choose whether you want to use our care. Our care is voluntary and we look at what your child needs.

You can come to us for various types of help to prepare you for parenthood. On this page you can read more about:

  1. a home visit from the youth nurse during pregnancy
  2. more intensive guidance during your pregnancy until your child is 2 years old

Home visit by the youth nurse

At your request, the youth nurse will visit you at home for a consultation. Would you rather meet somewhere else? Please let us know. Your partner, mother or another trusted person may also be present at the consultation.

During the consultation, the youth nurse will check how you and your family are doing. You can ask questions and share any concerns you may have. The youth nurse will listen to you, ask questions and can give you advice. Sometimes, 1 consultation is enough. In that case, additional consultations are not necessary for you at that time. The youth nurse will discuss with you how you can contact them if necessary later.

Do you need more help? The youth nurse will discuss the possibilities with you and give advice. If you want this, the youth nurse will make a new appointment with you immediately.

Request a home visit during your pregnancy

You request a home visit by logging in to our parent portal My Child in Image. You log in securely with your DigiD. Once you have completed the form, we will contact you.

Are you unable to log in to My Child in Picture with DigiD? Please contact us via our contact formWe will then call or email you to make an appointment.

Extra help

Sometimes you need a little more help as a parent. For example, if one of the parents is seriously ill. If there are debts. Or if your family is dealing with addiction. But extra help with raising children is also nice in other situations. That is why we offer 2 programs: Stevig Ouderschap Prenatal or VoorZorg.

The nurse will visit you at home regularly. From pregnancy until your child is 2 years old. Together you will discuss all your concerns and doubts. The nurse will give you advice on how to solve certain problems. This way you will be well prepared for the arrival of your child.
